Holland Bloorview offers assessments for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), as the Toronto region ASD Diagnostic Hub.
We have a team of clinicians, including:
- developmental paediatricians
- psychologists
- psychometrists
- speech-language pathologists (SLPs)
- occupational therapists (OTs)
- social workers (SWs)
The assessment begins with a screening and then selection of the professionals who will best meet the child's and family's needs.
Autism diagnostic assessments are typically completed by 1-2 clinicians and take place over the course of 2-3 visits. Our wait times for assessments vary based on referral volume.
There are many possible ways to obtain an autism diagnostic assessment. We encourage families to work with their regular health care provider, as they may be able to provide autism diagnostic assessments directly.
At Holland Bloorview, we use a combination of in-person and virtual appointments for the assessment process taking into consideration the families' preferences.
Accessing the service:
To access this service, a physician's (family doctor, paediatrician, paediatric subspecialist), and/or nurse practitioner's referral is required, which can be sent through fax or e-referral. Please note, the client must reside within the city of Toronto or within an area that does not have a local treatment centre.

These assessments are covered by OHIP, which means that families are not charged for this service.
