Nurse and client

Nursing at Holland Bloorview

By following our unique strengths-based rehabilitation nursing model and the Canadian Pediatric Nursing Standards, Holland Bloorview nurses have a positive impact on the future health and well-being of children.

Our nursing teams empower clients and families to advocate for themselves, enhance every aspect of a child’s potential, and enable our health-care teams and clients to achieve full impact through integrated practices in care, research and learning. The nursing teams embody a family-centred and strengths-based holistic approach to meeting each patient’s unique needs.

Our rehabilitation nurses begin working with patients and their families soon after the onset of a disabling injury or chronic illness, incorporating into their care the six ‘F-words’ in childhood disability: function, family, fitness, fun, friends and future. They continue to provide support in the form of patient and family education, and empower these children and youth when they return home and on their journeys forward.

Our inpatient nursing teams have the opportunity to learn and acquire specialized skills while working in the complex care unit (CCC), brain injury rehabilitation unit (BIRT) and in the specialized orthopedic developmental rehabilitation unit (SODR). Mentorship for early career nurses and preceptorship courses are two examples of how Holland Bloorview supports career success and ongoing professional growth and development. Straight through to outpatient services, our nursing team teaches children, youth and their caregivers how to access systems and resources.

Holland Bloorview takes a leadership role in nursing by striving to ignite and cultivate the rehabilitation nursing profession by representing nursing at strategic meetings and collaborating with other health-care professions to promote excellence in care, and advance the profession.

Whether you are a nursing student, starting your nursing career or already have a career in nursing, you are invited to join our dynamic, compassionate team. At Holland Bloorview you will discover a culture that embraces strengths-based care, teamwork, professionalism, courage and resiliency, and respect.  Our nursing team will inspire you to grow and develop. Potential for career diversity and personal growth is boundless. Join our team and help us to achieve Holland Bloorview’s vision: “the most meaningful and healthy futures for all children, youth and families”.
