Early Detection: The Hammersmith Infant Neurological Examination (HINE)
The HINE is a simple and scorable standardized neurological examination that can be used to help identify infants between 2 and 24 months of age who are at high risk for all types of CP. It includes 26 items assessing cranial nerves, posture, movements, tone and reflexes. An asymmetry score on the HINE greater than 5 is particularly useful in identifying children at high risk for hemiplegic (unilateral) CP who may benefit from an early referral to a Baby CIMT program.
