Early Detection: The Hammersmith Infant Neurological Examination (HINE)
The HINE, developed by Dr. Lilly Dubowitz and Professor Victor Dubowitz, is a simple and scorable standardized neurological examination that can be used to help identify infants between 3 and 24 months of age who have a high probability of all types of CP. It includes 26 items assessing cranial nerves, posture, movements, tone and reflexes. An asymmetry score on the HINE greater than 5 is particularly useful in identifying children who have a high probability of hemiplegic (unilateral) CP who may benefit from an early referral to a Baby CIMT program.
