Positions for our March Break 2024 opportunities are now closed.

Before you apply

  • Have you reviewed the volunteer requirements?
  • Do you meet the age requirement of 16 years of age (on or before March 1, 2024)?
  • Can you commit to 40 hours over 5 full days, 8:30 a.m. - 4:15 p.m., for the week of March Break (11th - 15th) --- Have no planned absences over the March Break period.
  • Can you participate in a mandatory Basic Introductory Training session before March Break (online and/ or in person).

If you are accepted, please be prepared to:

  • Complete an immunization screening form with proof of immunity to rubella, measles, mumps and varicella (chicken pox) as well as documentation of a 2-step Tuberculosis (TB) skin test. 
  • If you are 18 years of age or older (or turn 18 while volunteering), you will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Complete all mandatory online and/ or in-person orientation, along with any ongoing training, as required. 
  • It is the applicant’s sole responsibility to pay any costs incurred to meet the immunization and vulnerable sector check requirements.

We thank all applicants for their interest. Please note that submitting an application does not guarantee a volunteer position. We will be contacting only those applicants selected for an interview. In the event that a suitable volunteer position is not available at the time your application is received, your application will be retained for a period of 1 year, and will be reviewed periodically as volunteer positions become open.

March Break Volunteering Opportunities 

Creative Arts March Break Respite Camp
  • Volunteers must be 16+ years of age (on or before March 1, 2024).
  • Volunteers are expected to maintain their commitment to the program throughout their placement.
  • This is an arts- and recreation-based day camp that serves children and youth 4-18 years old with complex physical disabilities and developmental delays.
Therapeutic recreation
  • Volunteers must be 17+ years of age
  • Volunteers are expected to maintain their commitment to the program throughout their placement.
  • Therapeutic recreation offers a variety of programs to engage and support the rehabilitation goals of inpatient clients in: the brain injury rehab team unit (BIRT), specialized orthopaedic & developmental rehab unit (SODR) and the complex continuing care unit (CCC). Activities include sports and recreation, arts and crafts, games, and sensory-based play in group settings, or 1:1 activities at client bedside.
Ronald McDonald Playroom
  • Volunteers must be 16+ years of age (on or before March 1, 2024).
  • Volunteers are expected to maintain their commitment to the program throughout their placement.
  • The Ronald McDonald Playroom provides drop-in recreational activities for outpatient clients and their siblings, aged 2.5 years+. Activities include arts and crafts, games, and sensory-based play.
