Housed at Holland Bloorview, the Research MRI Service is a state-of-the-art facility that will enable researchers at the Bloorview Research Institute and around the world to study how the human brain and how it develops in children, youth and adults living with and without disabilities.
The Research MRI scanner, a 3T Siemens PRISMA, is capable of various methods of imaging including advanced functional MRI, diffusion tensor imaging, and spectroscopy paradigms.
The MRI unit leverages the latest design principles and technology to meet the unique needs and preferences of individuals of all abilities undergoing an MRI scan for research purposes.
Our Processes:
- Once we have confirmed our MRI scanner can meet the needs of your study, a Medical Imaging Service Agreement (MISA) will be prepared for your study. This step may be done while ethics approval is still pending.
- Once we have received your REB approval letter and completed MISA, instructions on submitting MRI requests through our online booking system, Calpendo, will be provided.
- A phantom or volunteer scan can be completed for test data. Principal Investigator must confirm and accept that test data meets requirements for the study before proceeding with first participant.
- Begin requesting research MRI scans
- Internal HB researchers must apply for HB ethics approval through the eREB system.
- Ensure that your eREB application indicates that your study will require Medical Imaging in section 2.2 and submit a signature request once your application is complete.
- Your application will be reviewed by the Research MRI Unit Team and if approved, your application will be signed and sent to the REB for final review. Once your application has been approved by the REB, submit a copy of the REB approval letter to us.
- A Medical Imaging Service Agreement (MISA) form needs to be completed and submitted (depending on your funding source the appropriate version will be provided).
