PhD Candidate
Biomedical Engineering, University of Toronto
Advisor: Dr. Tom Chau

Education

Mahya received her Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering - Bioelectric from the University of Tehran in 2019. Her research mainly focused on the medical devices' development for non-invasive diagnosis using near-infrared light. She also worked on diverse projects such as EEG and fNIRS signal processing, enhancing the quality of the signals, Brain-computer Interface, etc.

Research Interests

Mahya’s current research is focused on developing a novel conversational AI Chabot applicable for children with locked-In syndrome. This bot is going to be designed to address most of the children’s requirements through an eye-typing technique which Users can type in words by looking at an on-screen keyboard. To accelerate the conversation, Natural Language Processing (NLP) technology will be applied to allow the bot to understand the child messages while typing and respond appropriately.
