Rafael Escamilla Nunez

Rafael received his B.Sc. in Control and Automation Engineering from the National Polytechnic Institute (Mexico) in 2010 and M.Sc. in Automatic Control from CINVESTAV-IPN (Mexico) in 2013. During his B.Sc., he built a mini-aircraft that controlled the orientation of the vehicle performing autonomous straight flights. During his M.Sc., Rafael designed and built an underwater autonomous vehicle with the ability to control its position and orientation. He has also worked for Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles as a Powertrain Calibration Engineer.

Rafael is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in the Institute of Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto. Rafael also collaborates as a graduate student with the PROPEL Laboratory in the Bloorview Research Institute at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, where his research is mainly focused on rehabilitation engineering and assistive technologies for people with disabilities.

During his free time, Rafael enjoys going out to explore new places and food with his family. Also, he likes cycling, swimming and volunteering at community events.
