Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital offers educational opportunities for co-op students 16 years of age or older that involve working directly with our clients.

The majority of our co-op placement opportunities are at our satellite nursery school locations - Play and Learn Nursery School or Scarborough Nursery School.

Our placement opportunities can also involve working directly with our clients. Occasionally, there may be administrative or support co-op placement opportunities available (e.g. with the Bloorview Foundation or Family Resource Centre).

Placements are available in the mornings, afternoons or full days (subject to availability).

We are not able to accommodate alternate day placements. A minimum 75 hour commitment is required.

Co-op students will be interviewed and are required to complete hospital training prior to beginning placements. Students are also required to complete an immunization record, including screening for TB, and immunization for measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella. Students must abide by the hospital’s policies for influenza and COVID-19 vaccination.

Information for co-op teachers

Applications for Semester 2 of the 2023-2024 school year are now CLOSED.

Please check back in August 2024 for information on our 2024-2025 school year co-op opportunities.

Co-op teachers, please review our information sheet found here.

Please note that submitting an application does not guarantee the availability of a co-op placement. Placement availability will be dependent on infection prevention and control (IPAC) guidance and program needs.

Students will be required to participate in the hospital's COVID-19 screening process and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements. Students may be required to wear a mask and goggles/face shield for the duration of a placement shift. Appropriate PPE and training will be provided by the hospital. The COVID-19 vaccination is required.

In order to ensure that students are able to maintain punctuality and attendance, we strongly recommend that travel time to or from the student's home school to Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital or one of our satellite nursery school locations not exceed:

- 40 minutes by public transportation or;

- 40 minutes driving time if the student will have ongoing access to a reliable private vehicle throughout their co-op placement.

We ask that co-op teachers make contact with Volunteer Resources, 416-422-7033 or volunteers@hollandbloorview.ca to inquire about availability for the student's placement. For tracking purposes please provide the student's name and schedule.

If the co-op student meets the criteria given in the information sheet, please ask them to proceed to step 3 below.
