Motion Analysis Centre

We are a multidisciplinary team with members that specialize in physiotherapy, biomechanical engineering and orthopedic and neurosurgery. They work together with the referring practitioner and, if appropriate, the therapy team.

The Motion Analysis Centre opened in 2018 and is in a constant state of innovation and development to best support the pediatric population it serves. It is one of nine clinically-focused pediatric gait assessment labs in Canada and sees more than 50 children each year.

The mission of the Motion Analysis Centre is to enhance the mobility of ambulatory children and to maximize their independence by improving their ability to move, walk and play.

For the team this means using 3D motion capture technology to understand complex movement patterns and improve clinical-decision making. Clinically, the results from the assessments can be used to aid in surgical planning, orthosis customization, walking aid or therapy recommendations and to track improvements and changes over time.

The team also works to improve the field of movement and gait analysis through research studies and partnerships.

At the Motion Analysis Centre, we serve clients under 19 who are referred from orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons and other health-care professionals that work with Holland Bloorview. Many of these professionals have a specific question about movement that requires the added level of precision provided by a 3D motion capture system.
