Joanne Maxwell appointed vice president, experience, transformation and social accountability

An outstanding leader and change agent, Joanne will leverage her 15 years at Holland Bloorview to inform her new role

Following a comprehensive search, we are delighted to announce the appointment of Joanne Maxwell to the position of vice president, experience, transformation and social accountability (ETSA). Joanne has served as lead, ETSA on an interim basis since December 2023 and will now join the senior management team on a permanent basis.

In her role as vice president, Joanne will lead a passionate and dedicated team responsible for client and family experience; client transitions; collaborative practice; Caring Safely; quality, risk, privacy and performance; health equity; clinical bioethics; and inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility and anti-racism (IDEAA).

Joanne has distinguished herself as an outstanding leader and change agent, creating impact in a variety of roles since joining Holland Bloorview nearly 15 years ago. In addition to her clinical background as an occupational therapist and her project management designation, Joanne has held senior roles in collaborative practice, ambulatory care as well as quality, safety and performance. During her interim role, she advanced key initiatives of the Holland Bloorview 2030 strategic plan including initiation of a practice structure review and the collection of demographic information for new clients, staff and job applicants. She also played a key role in advancing Holland Bloorview’s Roadmap to confront anti-Black racism.

Joanne has a Masters in Rehabilitation Science and is a continuous learner. In recent years she has committed herself to a journey of deepening knowledge in all aspects of inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility and anti-racism.

Passionate about Holland Bloorview’s academic mission, Joanne has more than a dozen peer-reviewed publications as well as dozens of non-peer reviewed publications and invited talks. She is currently in the PhD program at the University of Toronto’s Institute for Health Policy, Management and Evaluation.
