Holland Bloorview observes Mental Health week

Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital will observe the national Mental Health week from Monday, May 1 to Sunday, May 7. This year, the Canadian Mental Health Association’s theme for the week is “My Story”.

“Collectively and individually, we have multiple layers and stories that make us who we are and while each year 1 in 5 Canadians experience a mental illness or mental health issue, 5 in 5 of us – that’s all people – have mental health. We all have different, yet equally valuable stories which can be used to share one key message: universal mental health care is important and needed now! - Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA)”

Holland Bloorview supports and promotes the mental health and well-being of clients, families, employees, students and volunteers through ongoing initiatives led by our mental health committees: Child and Youth Mental Health Strategy, Care for the Caregiver, and Working Well.

“We are committed to fostering a compassionate, healthy and safe work environment that values and promotes the mental well-being of our clients and families, employees, students and volunteers,” says Tracey Millar, chief people and culture officer. “We do this by creating safe spaces to discuss and address mental health through education, programs, partnerships and various initiatives such as participating in Mental Health week.”

During this week-long event, a wide range of activities will take place including a wellness hub of resources for stress management, burnout and staying healthy. Counselling and coaching services through our employee family assistance program (EFAP) will also be promoted and can be booked 24-hours a day, seven days a week. Other activities include yoga, in-chair massage, lane swims and nature walks, as well as various workshops focused on music sensory, wellness through art, healthy eating, desk moves & stretches and organizing solutions.

Holland Bloorview looks forward to this important week and continuing our support for the people in our organization around mental health and wellbeing.
