In June 2016, Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital launched our first feedback survey just for kids and youth to hear directly from them about their care experiences. The survey asks clients for feedback about how safe they feel, how their care teams communicate with them, if they are getting their care in a timely way, if they feel prepared to transition out of the hospital and if their care is helping them meet their goals.
Holland Bloorview is working with clients more and more on quality improvement initiatives. Recently we partnered with our Children’s Advisory Council in creating our annual Quality Improvement Plan (QIP).
“We put a lot of time and effort into gaining feedback from parents, but we haven’t formally reached out to kids for their input with a kids-only survey in the past,” said Laura Oxenham-Murphy, manager of quality, Holland Bloorview. “Based on the valuable feedback that came out of our Children’s Advisory Council QIP focus groups, we decided to expand our scope so that we can hear the voices of more kids directly.”
Inpatient clients will be able to complete the survey in one-to-one interviews with a member of our client and family integrated care team throughout June and July 2016. Within the next year we aim to roll out a similar survey for outpatients as well.
Our kids-only survey is one of a number of surveys we use to regularly seek feedback from clients and families so we can provide the best care possible and ensure clients and families are at the heart of everything we do.
