Feeding services

The Holland Bloorview feeding clinic serves children and youth with feeding and swallowing issues.

The feeding clinic is a service designed to assess and manage the problems your child is having with feeding and swallowing. Our multidisciplinary team works with you to develop a plan to improve your child’s feeding safety and feeding skill development.

Before leaving your appointment, our team will provide a written summary of feeding recommendations. These may include:

  • Changing the types of food provided
  • Change in feeding techniques
  • Therapy strategies provided by the speech-language pathologist and/or occupational therapist
  • Information on video swallow X-ray studies
  • Referral to other professionals
  • Medications
  • Recommendations may also be made to seek help from community therapists and we will work to facilitate the process.

Populations served:

  • Children up to the age of 18 whose feeding challenge is physical / nurse practitioner or neurological in origin
  • Children who have been diagnosed with conditions such as cerebral palsy, acquired brain injury, neuromuscular conditions, genetic syndromes, and cleft lip and palate

Note that we do not serve children with feeding difficulties solely related to behaviour and nutrition.

Please call the clinic if you have any questions about the appropriateness of a referral.

Holland Bloorview is here to help if you need assistance.
