Education & Training

Taeyoung holds a Bachelor of Technology in Manufacturing Engineering Technology (Co-op) from McMaster University and a Master of Applied Science in Mechanical & Industrial Engineering from the University of Toronto, where his research focused on the Design and Microfabrication of Non-Invasive, Magnetically Actuated Swallowable Capsule Robots for Stable and Efficient Collection of Gastrointestinal Microbiome Samples or Drug Delivery. His academic and research work spanned advanced manufacturing, microfabrication, and machine learning-driven optimization applied to non-invasive healthcare robotics and biomedical systems. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto as a member of the PRISM Lab.

Research Interests

Taeyoung is highly motivated to broaden research interests to center on developing intelligent systems and innovative assistive technologies to advance functional rehabilitation for children with disabilities using advanced manufacturing technologies and machine learning. Specifically, he is interested in designing novel solutions for more effective brain signal detection, communication, and human-environment interaction, with the goal of deepening our understanding of the physiological underpinnings of pediatric neurorehabilitation and enabling more capable robotic assistive technologies for children and youth.

Other Interests

Outside of the lab, Taeyoung enjoys spending time with friends, exploring the outdoors, and watching movies. He is also an enthusiastic badminton, soccer, and bowling player, and never turns down a BBQ party.
