PhD Student
Biomedical Engineering, University of Toronto
Advisor: Dr. Tom Chau
Education & Training
Charlie completed his Bachelor of Applied Science in Biomedical Engineering from the University of British Columbia in 2024. The highlight of his time at UBC was in his research with UBC’s Innovation in Dementia & Aging (IDEA) Lab, implementing telepresence robots in long-term care homes to reduce social isolation during the pandemic, where he enjoyed working with his research team alongside nurses and patient and family partners. Throughout his undergrad, he also worked for a year at a medical device start-up IKOMED on software for a computer vision-based X-ray reduction device; worked on Ultrasound Imaging research with UBC’s Robotics & Control (RCL) Lab; and was heavily involved in teaching and educational research with UBC’s Computer Science Department.
Research Interests
Charlie is excited to work on patient-centered research that improves the quality of life for children living with disabilities.
Other Interests
Charlie loves bringing his friends and family together through food (cooking, baking!). He also enjoys spending time outdoors, either in his outdoor garden or staying active through activities like running, cycling, and climbing!
