Who we are


The Adapted Sports and Recreation Programs we’re dedicated to creating inclusive, meaningful, and fun sport and recreation experiences for children and youth ages 7–18. Our team of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists supports kids of all abilities in discovering activities they love, building confidence, staying active, and forming lasting social connections—on their terms and at their pace.

What we do


Through evidence-informed programming and a client-centered approach, we create opportunities for social connection, skill development, and lifelong participation in sport and recreation. Our programs are goal-oriented, and individuals who are interested in participating in services must be motivated to participate in goal-based activities.

Frequently asked questions

Eligibility criteria

Eligibility to participating in adapted sports & recreation is as follows:

  • A Holland Bloorview client aged 7 – 18 (up to 21 if in high school) 
  • Able to participate in up to 90 minutes of physical activity (with breaks as needed) 
  • Can follow simple 1-2 step instructions 
  • Can participate safely within a group setting 
  • Is interested in setting goal(s), and willing to participate in goal-motivated activities 
  • 1:1 supports are not provided. If 1:1 is required, it is client/family’s responsibility to provide 1:1 support.
Where are the programs offered?

Most programs offered are onsite, but some partnerships exist in the community setting (to support with transitioning to the community)

How often/what is the time commitment?

Most programs are offered 1x per week after school

Are programs accessible for all needs?

We do our best to accommodate clients with all disabilities. 1:1 supports are not provided by Holland Bloorview staff, if required it is the responsibility of client/family to provide the appropriate support. 

What are the costs of the programs?

Costs vary per program. We aim to provide no or low-cost services to clients and families of Holland Bloorview. If funding support is required please contact a Holland Bloorview staff for access to the Family Support Fund.
