For ACSD applications, the website states: “You may be eligible if your total household income is $76,200 or less.”
However, if a child is medically eligible, there is no firm income cut-off and parents should still apply if their income exceeds that threshold.
If you have been denied ACSD funding due to your household income, you can ask for reconsideration via an internal review letter, and, if necessary, by appealing to the Social Benefits Tribunal if the internal review is refused.
For help with this process, there are a few options:
- You can complete the internal review letter yourself
- If your child is a Holland Bloorview client, our Pro Bono lawyer, Rosemary Masemann, can assist in completing the internal review letters. Please contact her through phone at ext. 6557 or through email at rmasemann@hollandbloorview.ca.
- If your child is not a Holland Bloorview client, you may be able to get an external lawyer or get a consultation through Pro Bono Ontario to assist in completing the internal review letters or eventual appeal. More information on Pro Bono Ontario is available through the link.
- You may also be able to obtain legal assistance through your local community legal clinic. Find your local clinic here.
**Tip: Families only have 30 days to appeal at each stage (with some flexibility) so please appeal as soon as possible! **
Going through the appeal process does not guarantee that you will be accepted for ACSD funding, but it does ensure that every attempt to receive funding has been completed and can be an important step for advocating for your family.
