Welcome to the Anti-Discrimination Resource Hub!

This hub aims to provide information on discrimination, ableism and inclusion; internal and external resources; lived experience videos; and relevant publications.

Why was the Anti-Discrimination Resource Hub created?

Our research project "Discrimination, ableism and racism hurt but inclusion can heal: Listening to the intersectional lived experience of youth with disabilities and co-creating solutions" explores the lived experience of youth with disabilities and how disabilities intersect with race, ethnicity and gender with the aim of removing barriers for youth with disabilities.

In our interviews for this project, youth with disabilities and service providers recommended more support with finding relevant resources, and increased information on responding to discrimination, self-advocacy, avoiding discrimination, and making services more inclusive.

How was the Anti-Discrimination Resource Hub created?

We interviewed 52 youth with disabilities, clinicians and service providers through 2 phases. Phase 1 focused on lived experiences of discrimination of youth with disabilities. Phase 2 focused on identifying solutions to enhance the social inclusion and well-being of youth with disabilities. We worked with youth leaders, family leaders, the Evidence to Care team, and the Communications and Public Engagement Team at Holland Bloorview. We include videos, toolkits, guides, programs, and publications developed by the TRAIL Lab, Holland Bloorview and other reputable sources. Included resources focus on discrimination and inclusion; would be useful to youth with disabilities and service providers; use language that encourages inclusion, respect, and equity.

We acknowledge this sacred land on which we are on today. This land, Mother Earth, our Earth Mother, is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee-speaking nations, including the Huron-Wendat, Seneca and Mohawk. It is also the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit. Today, Toronto is still the home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island. We are grateful, honoured, and humbled to have the opportunity to live and work in this city and this territory we call Turtle Island. Chi-Miigwetch - Nia:weh - Merci -Thank you.

We thank our research participants, the Family Engagement team, youth leaders, family leaders, the Evidence to Care team, the Communications and Public Engagement Team, and the TRAIL Lab team at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital for their support in creating the Anti-Discrimination Resource Hub.
