Search Engine Conversational Agent: A Novel Retrieval-Augmented-Based Dialogue System

Summary

We are currently recruiting typically developing adolescents for a research study on human computer interaction. This study will use a head-mounted display which tracks eye movements. Participants try to type a query with their eyes on an on-screen keyboard and receive the answer from the system. In the future, we hope that this technology can be a replacement of search engines for youth with severe physical impairments to send query and receive the answer.

Call to action

Do you want to help us develop a device for youth with severe physical impairments? Consider participating in our research study.

Who can participate

Participants must be between the ages of 18 and 35 years old. They must have normal or corrected-to-normal vision with the ability to coordinate and control their eye movements. Participants must be able to read and write in English. Additionally, participants should have no fluency delays or disorders, or difficulties related to literacy skills. Participants should have no history of neurological, psychological, drug or alcohol-related conditions, seizures, fear of enclosed spaces or ‘claustrophobia’, or head injuries.

What's involved

Study participants will attend one 30-min and two one-hour research sessions at the Bloorview Research Institute. During each session, participants will type on an on-screen keyboard by eye movement and eye gaze while they wear a headset to track the eye movements. Participants will receive a small token of appreciation to thank them for their time.
