Earn your 40 hours of community service in one week!

Applications have now closed for March Break 2019. We welcome applications for Summer 2019 programs.

Here is a sample of the programs offered to our clients during this week:

Creative arts March break respite camp

Volunteers must be 16+ years of age

This is a respite day camp that serves children and youth 4-18 years old with complex physical disabilities and developmental delays.

Therapeutic recreation

Volunteers must be 17+ years of age

Therapeutic recreation offers a variety of programs for clients that volunteers can find placements in: the brain injury rehab team unit (BIRT), specialized orthopaedic & developmental rehab unit (SODR) and the complex continuing care unit (CCC).

Reliability is key. Volunteering at Holland Bloorview is a commitment. Our clients rely on you, the volunteer, to participate in programs. Our march break camp cannot run without our volunteers.

Before you apply

These are the requirements to volunteer at Holland Bloorview as a member of our March break program:

  • I can commit to 40 hours over 5 full days, 8:30 a.m. - 4:15 p.m., for the week of March break. I have no planned absences (e.g. appointments, classes, day trips, etc.).
  • I am a minimum of 16 years of age.
  • I can attend a mandatory Basic introductory training session before March break.
  • I have been vaccinated against influenza and have proof of vaccination or I am willing to sign a declaration form regarding my decision not to be vaccinated.

Volunteers will be expected to do everything possible to prevent the spread of the flu at our sites and getting the flu shot (or wearing a mask if you can't) is an effective way to do this. In the event of an influenza outbreak among inpatient clients, therapeutic recreation volunteers who have not been vaccinated may not be eligible to attend program. In this situation, the Volunteer Resources department may not be able to offer an alternate placement.

The influenza vaccine requires 14 days to reach full effectiveness, so we encourage vaccination as early as possible.
