High tech waiting room helps keep kids healthy

Waiting in a doctor’s office or hospital can be a stressful experience for children and families. While some pediatric waiting rooms provide toys to distract children and relieve anxiety and boredom, these can also spread infections. They are also often not inclusive for children of all abilities.

ScreenPlay, since 2012, has been an interactive and inclusive waiting room environment that features a large-scale projection wall that children and adults of all abilities and disabilities can interact with via a pressure-sensitive floor.

Elaine Biddiss and ScreenPlay team in the Bloorview Research Instutite at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospitalcollaborated via a contest with Bachelor of Game Design students at Sheridan College to develop new animations for ScreenPlay.
