Dr. Anne Hunt receives Recognition Award for Clinical Excellence from the University of Toronto

On Tuesday, July 25, Dr. Anne Hunt, clinical study investigator who runs the Holland Bloorview Concussion Centre’s On TRACK Health Professional Student Training and Intervention Research Program was recognized with a Recognition Award for Clinical Excellence from the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Toronto. Dr. Hunt was recognized with a similar award in 2017.

The award acknowledges individuals who have provided exceptional learning environments, guidance, and supervision; and are an inspiration to their students. As an assistant professor in the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy at the University of Toronto, Dr. Hunt has supervised, mentored, and motivated dozens of health profession students in the fields of physical therapy, occupational therapy, kinesiology, and social work. Here is what some of them have to say:

“As a physical therapy student who has worked with Dr. Anne Hunt at Holland Bloorview’s Concussion Centre, Dr. Hunt is one of the most invested and passionate clinical instructors I have had the pleasure of working with over the course of my two years in the Master of Physical Therapy program at the University of Toronto. Dr. Hunt’s teaching style has shaped me to become independent and confident as a health care professional working with clients with concussion. I learned more than I had ever anticipated thanks to Dr. Hunt, and I am so grateful for my time spent at Holland Bloorview with its Concussion Centre team,” – Amanda Benaim, Master of Physical Therapy, University of Toronto

“Dr. Hunt is someone who goes out of her way to help students grow and develop throughout and beyond their time at Holland Bloorview. I received this support through my time as a student in the ON TRACK student-led clinic, completing my Master of Professional Kinesiology capstone in affiliation with Holland Bloorview, and being a co-author of my first academic publication on youth concussion experiences. I would not have been able to be as successful in these endeavours without Dr. Hunt’s mentorship and I am comforted knowing that I have her continued support as I continue on in my academic studies and professional career.” – Emily Kawaguchi, Master of Professional Kinesiology, University of Toronto

“Over the past year volunteering as a research student and completing a practicum placement with Dr. Hunt, I have had the honour of witnessing her dedication to teaching students. She creates a vibrant and positive work environment that allows students to take risks, challenge themselves, and grow both personally and academically. Working with Dr. Hunt has been one of the highlights of my undergraduate experience and, as I begin my Master of Science in Occupational Therapy at the University of Toronto, I will continue to look to Dr. Hunt as a role model, mentor, and inspiration. I feel fortunate to have had the experience of working alongside Dr. Hunt and witnessing her significant contributions to research and clinical teaching.” – Alexa Patel, Master of Science in Occupational Therapy, University of Toronto

Holland Bloorview’s On TRACK – a program that trains the next generation of pediatric concussion experts – is a student-led concussion program that gives health care students the chance to learn about paediatric concussion management, give Concussion & You education sessions to families, support community outreach and advocacy programs, and help plan and conduct research studies that focus on paediatric concussion.

Congratulations once again, Dr. Hunt!
