WiViK Onscreen Keyboard Software
WiViK on-screen keyboard (virtual keyboard) software by Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital provides access to any Microsoft Windows application as an alternative to a standard computer keyboard. WiViK has been an internationally recognized assistive technology solution since 1991.
More information can be found at wivik.com.
WiViK can help individuals of all ages who are unable to use a physical keyboard, such as those with spinal cord injuries, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), muscular dystrophy, and cerebral palsy. Any pointing device or one through six discrete switches may be used as input. There are many alternative pointing devices and switches available in the assistive technology field that work with WiViK.
All on-screen (virtual keyboard) keys work just as they would if you were typing on a standard computer keyboard. Select a key and WiViK sends it to a word processor, e-mail message, web page or other text-based application you may be using. Keyboards can contain any keys you want, can be moved anywhere on the screen and can be any size.
Several years ago, I wrote to the president of Wivik's parent company searching for keyboard improvements. The company listed his email address on the website at that time. Today, I searched, but could only find this link to Wivik personnel. My intentions were to thank the team for helping me complete my master degree program in military history using Wivik as my onscreen keyboard.
Please forward my thanks to all members of the Wivik team. Their keyboard's flexibility and reliability permitted me to add vocabulary words, which helped me write papers quickly and accurately. I wrote over one thousand pages of material over the past eighteen months, all with Wivik. I will graduate with honors 22 June at Norwich University in Vermont. Actually, I cannot attend, but I will be their in spirit. Needless to say, I love the Wivik keyboard!
