Dr. Anne Hunt receives U of T’s Department of Physical Therapy Recognition Award in two categories

On July 19, 2017, Holland Bloorview’s Dr. Anne Hunt was recognized by the University of Toronto with the Department of Physical Therapy 2017 Recognition Award for clinical instruction and clinical coordination/education. She received her award during the MScPT* Student Research Day & Awards Ceremony.

"Anne was an excellent teacher and clinical supervisor. I appreciated that she gave us autonomy and opportunity for self-directed learning. I valued her trust in her students and that she gave us the confidence to use our skills and knowledge. Her supervision was unlike any other in that she let us lead treatments and use our own clinical reasoning to problem-solve and come up with interventions," says a student who nominated Dr. Hunt in the clinical instructor category.

"Anne has done an amazing job in welcoming physiotherapy students to the concussion centre at Holland Bloorview, not only from the University of Toronto but other universities as well. She is extremely committed to fostering an excellent learning experience and is dedicated to working with a diversity of students and universities,” reflects faculty in the department of physical therapy at the University of Toronto that nominated Dr. Hunt for the clinical coordination and education category.

The annual ceremony acknowledges faculty members, clinical instructors, facilitators, lab demonstrators, teaching assistants, and other educators who have provided great learning environments, guidance, supervision, and inspiration to their students in the department of physical therapy.

“This award is incredibly meaningful to me. It is a tremendous honour to have my work recognized by my students and colleagues,” says Dr. Hunt. “I'm an occupational therapist by background so supervising physical therapy students in our interprofessional student clinic is fairly new to me. I feel very fortunate to have been so well supported by students, faculty, and everyone at Holland Bloorview. I feel so incredibly privileged to have worked with my physiotherapy students and have loved learning from and with all of them!”

At Holland Bloorview, Dr. Hunt is a clinical study investigator who runs the concussion centre’s On TRACK Health Professional Student Training Program that trains the next generation of pediatric concussion experts. The student-led concussion program gives health care students the chance to learn about pediatric concussion management, give Concussion & You education sessions to families, support community outreach and advocacy programs, and help plan and conduct research studies that focus on pediatric concussion.

Congratulations, Dr. Hunt!
