KneuroKnits: Evaluating social participation and anxiety response associated with participation in a knitting group for youth with neurological conditions (pilot study)

Participate in this study

Are you a youth with a neurodevelopmental disorder, physical disability, or acquired brain injury interested in learning a new skill and interacting with other youths Participate in our KneuroKnits knitting program!

Who can participate

Youth age 15-24 with a diagnosis of neurodevelopmental disorder, physical disability, or acquired brain injury are eligible to participate in the weekly 4-session program taking place at Holland Bloorview and the Ontario Science Centre.

What's Involved

Study participants will attend a 4-session knitting program, KneuroKnits, where they will learn how to knit and have opportunities to socialize with other youth with neurodevelopmental disorders, physical disabilities, and acquired brain injuries. We will take physiological measures of anxiety (heart rate), and ask them to participate in three short questionnaires and a 30-60 minute interview following the program to understand their experiences. Participants will receive knitting supplies to practice and keep.

Deadline

Recruitment ends November 2, 2018 for the session at the Ontario Science Centre, January 11, 2019 for the session at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.
