This five-year study examines changes in quality of life (QOL) for youth with chronic conditions. It addresses two unexplored research areas: 1) the changing nature of QOL for youth with chronic conditions over a three-year period, and 2) the factors that influence changes in QOL for these youth. 575 youth aged 11 to 17 years (and their primary caregivers) who receive services from six OACRS centres are participating. Participants are being be assessed at four time points. The youth and parents each complete a brief questionnaire that includes two validated measures of QOL, in addition to a set of measures of factors thought to influence changes in life quality. Advanced statistical analysis procedures are being used to evaluate changes in QOL and to determine factors related to change.
